True Winter, the debut book by Q.K. Petty, is a spellbinding fantasy-adventure that transports readers on a thrilling trip through a world where superhuman forces contend for dominance and secret societies compete for power. In a brutal conflict between good and evil, the House of David, a group devoted to tracking down sacred artefacts that can cause havoc in the wrong hands, is matched against the malevolent Seditio organisation.
As he searches for the Chains of Peter, which are rumoured to be stashed away in the home of his half-brother, Orion Bachman, the plot follows the merciless murderer Eden Dowler, better known as The Grim Reaper. Orion joins the House of David after Eden rescues the Bachman family from probable death, but as they traverse the globe in search of other artefacts, Orion starts to wonder if he made the right choice in joining the group.
Petty’s parallel reality is both fascinating and believable, and her writing is flowing and simple to read. The distinction between good and evil is hazy, just as it is in reality; this adds complexity and depth that are frequently lacking in traditional fantasy literature. With Eden and Orion’s challenges and inner problems propelling the plot ahead, the character development is excellent.
With psychotic antagonists, fast-moving escapades, and a scythe-wielding heroine that will leave readers breathless, the novel’s action is fast-paced and engrossing. Reading about Petty’s meticulous attention to detail and deft world-building makes for a rewarding and exciting experience.
The author does a fantastic job of creating a distinctive and engrossing novel that expertly fuses various genres together. Each character stands out and is unforgettable thanks to the excellent character development. I found myself anxiously turning the pages to find out what would happen next because of the book’s fast-paced action and intriguing plot, which kept me interested the entire time. “True Winter” is a terrific novel that will appeal to followers of the occult, action, and fantasy genres despite this tiny flaw.
Readers of all ages will enjoy True Winter, a genre-defying masterpiece. Readers will be on the edge of their seats from start to finish because to the book’s distinctive blend of fantasy, adventure, and tension. To anyone looking for an exciting and thought-provoking read, I heartily suggest this book.
About The Book
Five hundred years ago, a deadly artifact called the Chains of Peter was stolen. Now, the chains have resurfaced in Mobile, Alabama, and the House of David, a secret organization that specializes in securing dangerous artifacts, has sent its most lethal operative to find them.
Judge Eden Dowler is all but certain the wealthy Bachman family is hiding the chains, and he has a win/win plan for securing them. As it happens, the Bachmans’ youngest son, Orion, is Eden’s estranged half-brother. All Eden has to do is convince his brother to join the House of David, and the chains are as good as his.
Orion Bachman is the perfect candidate—loyal, intelligent, fit, and eager—and Eden is certain his brother’s healthy upbringing will benefit the House, which usually only recruits broken children. There’s just one problem. A mysterious organization known will stop at nothing to keep the House from securing the chains.
As the House continues its bloody search for artifacts, Eden begins to question its integrity and the role he plays within it. Unfortunately, Orion is beginning to question everything else, including whether he should have ever put his faith in someone like Eden Dowler.
The Review
True Winter
True Winter is a complex but filling read. I don’t know what genre it should fit in but it has almost everything that you need from romance, thriller, horror, mystery, action and adventure. This story with fill all of your reading appetite. Eden Dowler is an amazing protagonist with him being basically the grim reaper. If I had to chose I would say that Aiden was my favorite character or the bunch introduced to the reader. I would recommend this book if you want to go on a wild ride. I can’t wait for Q.K. Petty to complete the series!
