Let’s set the scene first. I’ve now read 11 of Matthew Reilly’s books. I don’t say that because I value his writing ability. To be completely honest, I frequently find myself cringing at the prose these days. Really, how can a writer get away with describing something with “a sh!tload of”?
Because he is the master of tall tales, Matthew Reilly does. He completely distorts myth, fable, and historical reality to suit himself. In Reilly’s depiction of our world, which is frequently covertly on the verge of a worldwide catastrophe, no issue can’t be resolved with courage, willpower, and—most importantly—the assistance of devoted friends with good hearts who are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Characters With Heart
Yes, Reilly’s Jack West Jr. Series offers pure escapism, but what keeps me going back for more is this series’ diverse cast of sympathetic characters. The Four Legendary Kingdoms leaves off where The Three Secret Cities picks up with Jack and his motley crew just making it out alive after winning the Great Games. The secret world order has been disrupted by our hero, so his chance to rest is fleeting.
I’m happy to report that Reilly met my expectations in this area. Additionally, Reilly takes a few touching breaths in this chapter, an indication of the maturation of both the Jack West Jr series and its youthful characters Lily and Alby. He definitely turns up “the heart” in The Three Secret Cities by taking valuable moments to consider difficulties and devoted friends from the past.
My favourite Matthew Reilly series, The Three Secret Cities, is at its best and racing to what will unquestionably be a thrilling and memorable finish.

The Review
The Three Secret Cities
I didn't know what I was in for when I started this series years ago but I sure am glad I found it!! These books usually hook me so bad that I'll read the entire thing in one day and this one was no different. Mr. Reilly picks up, with a little refresher, from the book before and then jumps right into this book. However, I will say that I did need many tissues through this one. Many serious events occur with characters that will definitely leave you in shock and awe, not to mention seriously affect future books. MUST READ!
