In the romantic suspense novel Something So Beautiful, Mary Williams, a widower, battles to maintain some kind of normalcy despite being plagued by hushed phone calls and cars honking late into the night. Mary, who lives in constant fear of the chilly, murderous fingers lurking in the shadows, claims to be going insane.
Until she meets John Beller, a carpenter who instantly falls in love with both Mary and her. She worries that her illusions might make him go even though he makes her feel safe. I appreciate a good stalker thriller, personally. Even though you’re alone, you can still feel whispering breaths on the back of your neck and what you think are footsteps that aren’t actually there.
A skilled author may make you wonder aloud, “Did I envision that?,” as the main character does. Lee Dawna is equally adept in that area as Lisa Jackson. Even while the tense sections were excellent, I felt that some of the growth could have benefited from more time. The development of John and Mary’s relationship came first.
I may be alone in this feeling; others may disagree, but I found their relationship’s intensity and pace to be a little disconcerting and unconvincing. However, it was discussed in the book quite a bit, so the author might have been aiming for shock. So I’ll leave it up to the individual reader to decide.
The ratio of description and action vs dialogue was another flaw. The majority of the narrative appears to be a series of disagreements between John and Mary. She wants to accomplish something on her own, but he insists he do it for her, and they eventually reconcile. I believe that a lot of the speech should have been cut down, and there could have been more action.
Despite these errors, I still thought this was a really fun book to read, with a fast pacing and a compelling plot that keeps the reader glued to their seat. It is something I would suggest to fans of romantic and thrilling thrillers.
About The Book

But the confident man is demanding, and he’s digging into secrets she has no intention of letting anyone find out about.
When an insane driver intentionally forces her car off the road and leaves her for dead at the bottom of a ravine, she wakes to find herself hospitalized, then forced into confinement at John’s house.
