The majority of the short science fiction and horror stories in Footsteps in the Dark are between three and five pages length. Zombies, vampires, wendigos, creepy crawly spiders, and other creatures that go bump in the night live in this world of fiction.
Even some of the stories that might be categorised as science fiction rather than horror have a small amount of horror. A collection like this has a lot of diverse pieces to read, and none of them need a significant time investment.
Any reader who like horror is sure to find at least one story here that will stick with them long after reading, even though not every story comes off flawlessly. For instance, the novella Ordinary stuck with me long after I completed it, and Gender Reveal takes a really unexpected path.
Homeowner’s Association, which offers a fresh perspective on how much people are ready to endure in their neighbours, also stands out in my memory. If you don’t have the stomach for that kind of reading, you might want to skip a few of the stories in this book because some of them can become a little gory.
The majority of the stories are still worth reading at least once if you have a strong enough stomach, and when combined, they constitute a great anthology for horror enthusiasts. This is an excellent book to add to your bookshelf if you enjoy short works of science fiction and horror.
About The Book
Another collection comes from the three-time Reedsy winner, Joshua G. J. Insole. This second volume of horror and sci-fi explores the dark alleys of the mind once more.
A woman defends house and husband from the home’s eight-legged inhabitants. Two strangers discuss music’s finer points as cannibals try to break into their car. A gender-reveal party goes off the rails as the true nature of the infant comes to light. Thirteen women gather at night to right the wrongs of society. A mother takes shelter in the family treehouse as the world ends around her. And finally—
Wait. Do you hear that?
Footsteps.
Footsteps in the dark.
The Review
Footsteps in the Dark: Volume II
This book was the PERFECT read for a horror/sci-fi/thriller lover like me! It’s a collection of short stories and I 100% recommend if you’re into witches, vampires, aliens, zombies, ghosts, demons, and phobias. Some stories had some gruesome details so no weak tummies for this read! Again loved it from start to finish every story in this collection brought something new to the table and I could definitely play each story in my head like a movie! Intrigued by literally every single one!
