Continued are Eva and the dolphins’ incredible adventures! I had been anticipating Dragon Song ever since the suspenseful third instalment of the series. I also adored it! Soledad attends school and lives with Thomas while Eva continues her studies with the dolphins in Roatán.
When Eva learns that the wild dolphins of the Caribbean have been taken captive, she must resume her search for the dolphins. In her pursuit, she gets caught up in a global conflict that could start a World War.
This time is a little different because Soledad goes on this adventure with her parents and Thomas and Eva start out by supporting one another. A mermaid with a siren’s song becomes their new ally. Together they work to save the dolphins and the world from danger.
The dolphins’ point of view is my favourite aspect of the Order of the Dolphin trilogy books. They are the most fascinating and intriguing characters ever! This time, there weren’t many such chapters, but they were all enjoyable to read. I adore their communication style!
It was fantastic to have Thomas and Soledad join the expedition and help Eva. Because of how lovely Eva and Thomas’ connection is, I keep wanting to see them more often! We got to see more of Sol’s love for the dolphins when she was a teen, which was a cute little addition to the story.
Tylosaurs have returned along with Dr. Li’s propaganda. Most of the time, I felt bad for them because of how they were handled. Even if at times they seemed repetitive, their encounters with the dolphins were amazing and thrilling to read about.
It has always been fascinating to observe how people and dolphins develop contact. And this book provided further evidence of their intelligence and compassion. I admired the way they stood up for Eva and her squad when they were under danger. As usual, the conclusion has me hoping for a quick sequel!
About The Book
Dr. Eva Paz wants only a peaceful life on Roatán for herself and her dolphins, continuing their research in dolphin communication and educating children on the importance of caring for the reef.
But when Eva discovers that the Caribbean’s wild dolphin pod has been captured, she must go back into action to find them. Her pursuit returns her to the Pacific, where she finds her newest nemesis has engineered yet more sea dragons, and this time she finds herself embroiled in an international struggle that could end in a World War.
Thankfully, Eva has her friends and family—including ex-Navy SEAL Dr. Thomas Sternberg—on her side. Even the ocean itself yields a new ally in a very unexpected form: a mermaid with a siren’s song. And this time, a teenaged Soledad accompanies her parents on their adventures.
The Review
Dragon Song: Order of the Dolphin
I haven’t read the earlier books in the series, but that didn’t reduce my enjoyment of this book. There was enough background given that I didn’t feel confused when prior events were mentioned, but not so much detail to feel tedious to someone who had read them all. There was enough information on the characters that everything made sense, but I would enjoy learning more about many of the secondary characters. We learned the most about Dr. Paz, which made sense given she’s the primary character. The dolphins were the real stars.
