Max Davenport, a star football player, comes back to Green Hills to get some much-needed rest and relaxation. He never anticipated to have a romantic relationship with Janie Lyn, the best friend of his sister. But Cupid has other ideas. Both are unable to overlook the uncomfortable difficulties that come with their hot attraction. Max lives in the spotlight, whilst Janie prefers the darkness to protect her secrets.
Janie’s safety is in danger due to Max’s steadfastness in changing her opinion. But as they get to know one another by cooking together and spending time with his close-knit family and friends, she finds it difficult to resist him. He is everything a girl could want in a man: attractive, talented, eager to learn how to cook, and a responsible big brother with strong family values.
People are drawn to Janie Lyn because she is intelligent, incredibly capable, and has a kind heart. She has to work extra hard to conceal her identity as a result. In this romance “In the Trenches“, the author deftly incorporates quilting and fighting for a good cause—in this case, Alzheimer’s disease. You may make a delectable story for a quiet afternoon by adding a mystery and some action. Regarding all the baking and cooking they did… I gained weight just from reading about it.
Well-drawn characters are present. Janie might be every woman’s best friend, whereas Max is the kind of guy mothers would adore their daughters to bring home. Family and friends serve as the supporting cast and contribute without taking centre stage. The second book in the Davenport siblings’ narrative trilogy is about Max and Janie Lyn. You can enjoy their trip all by yourself. But the characters from the first novel come back to add to the tale that is set in a small town.
Each chapter begins with a pertinent statement that sets the scene. Although there are allusions to the Bible and religion, the novel falls short of the tougher standards for a Christian romance. However, it goes above and beyond what is expected of a slow-burning, family-focused small-town family story and will please readers of this genre. While the plot unfolds gradually, it picks up momentum and romps to an appropriate conclusion. This is a feel-good romance that you can finish in a one sitting. I liked this author’s story, and I’m eager to read the following installment in the series.
About The Book
Max Davenport craves a break from the press. Constantly on the run from paparazzi and over-enthusiastic women, the football star takes to the small town of Green Hills to embrace a simpler lifestyle with his sister. But his pulse unexpectedly quickens when he discovers his sibling’s usually frumpy-dressed friend swimming in his backyard pool…opening his eyes to her breathtaking beauty.
Janie Lyn needs to stay under the radar. Desperate to remain hidden for reasons she dare not reveal, she’s thrown when her private crush suddenly shows more than a passing interest. Struggling to resist temptation, she’s terrified to risk her dark secret being exposed in his limelight.
As Max’s attempts to persuade Janie to be seen out and about with him continuously fail, he fears that their relationship won’t survive her steadfast hesitancy. And when Janie Lyn finally opens up about what she’s dodging, her dangerous past threatens to put both their lives on the line.
Can the couple step into the public eye and still find their happily ever after?
In the Trenches is the gripping second book in the wholesome Green Hills romance series. If you like well-drawn characters, deep attractions, and thoughtful settings, then you’ll adore Virginia’dele Smith’s heartwarming tales of small-town love stories.
The Review
Book 2: In the Trenches
In the Trenches is my favorite kind of romance. Heartfelt and wholesome, but with just the right amount of sizzle. I loved getting to spend a lazy Sunday in the little town of Green Hills with the Davenport siblings, and I'm sure you will too. This book gives you just the right amount of tension to keep you eagerly turning the pages, while also giving you that happy sigh feeling that comes with a wonderful love story. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one!
