The setting of A Curse of Roses is a complex one characterised by discrimination and injustice. The narrative centres on Lillianett, a member of the cursed Renai family, who becomes marked at a particular age. They are sent to live for a year in a world called Glorus after being marked. In the end, Lillianett acts rashly and saves a prince, putting herself in risk but enabling her to escape her lonely existence.
I fell in love with Lillianett simply because she rescues a prince rather than the other way around. You get A Curse of Roses when you combine that with tasteful world-building, clear language, and outstanding character development. An excellent young adult fantasy book, in my opinion.
I hardly seldom say this in my reviews of books, but A Curse of Roses has earned it. That sums up the influence this book has had on me both as a reader and a reviewer. It’s great for young adult fantasy enthusiasts, but it’s also great for everyone who enjoys fantasy, regardless of age or preferred genre.
Just give it a shot; I’m sure it will have the same affect on you as it did on me. Young adult fantasy is pretty much my area of expertise when it comes to writing and reviewing because I have long been a fan of the young adult genre, both as a writer and a reader. Who can blame me?
When I first came across A Curse of Roses, I was drawn in by the cover. Lastly, the summary completed the sale. Without a doubt, if you give me a young adult fantasy with a strong heroine, I’m lost. Author Maria B. Moses did exactly that.
I will recommend Maria B. Moses’ work to everyone I know since I am so impressed by it. She deserves every accolade I am giving her because she is a fearless new voice in her genre. Grab a copy of A Curse of Roses and prepare for an exhilarating journey to a fascinating new realm. I’m hoping you have a good time there.
About The Book
Lillianett belongs to a family of Renai, cursed children of the Halibel bloodline that began when Queen La-Muse committed an unforgivable sin. On the day the curse is passed down, burned onto flesh, the Renai must go to another world, Glorus, for a year and survive under the constant threat of being found and prosecuted.
As the ninth generation Renai, the curse is a glorified birdcage of boredom and isolation. Lillianett trains for the day she might get caught, but otherwise languishes in her growing desire to break free. Her recklessness threatens to be her ruining when she saves a prince’s life and he tempts her out of her birdcage and away from eight generations of hiding.
